University Place
A friendly, suburban community with an emphasis on the outdoors.
Known for its community-oriented focus and its breathtaking views of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains, University Place (also known as UP by locals) offers a small-town feel while providing many of the same amenities of larger cities. Chambers Bay is a destination spot for residents and out-of-towners alike, and the nationally recognized Chambers Bay Golf Course is a beautiful place to visit— even if you don’t play golf!
A suburban area with a vibrant atmosphere, the University Place neighborhood is also known for its convenient proximity to Joint Base Lewis-McChord. JBLM, I-5, Highway 16 and Downtown Tacoma are all within a 15-20 minute drive, and Pierce County Transit runs throughout the community. University Place has also truly become a walkable city, which many residents appreciate. Home of the 2015 U.S. Open, the Chambers Bay Golf Course is a wonderful destination with stunning views all year round!
Known for its award-winning schools, many families choose UP as home. A range of housing options are available, and construction age depends on the neighborhood, but many homes were built in the 1950s to 70s. The northern part of the city has many apartment options, while the south and west slope offer more single-family home options, some with gorgeous views of the Puget Sound!
