The Best Bars on 6th Ave
Ready for a night on the town? Along Tacoma’s 6th Ave you’ll find bars fit for any occasion, but with the number of establishments available it can be hard to choose the best stops for a bar crawl with friends. Read on to discover our four favorite bars on 6th Ave!
At 2403 6th Ave is O'Malley's Irish Pub, an establishment that describes itself as an "unfussy watering hole." This bar offers fun activities for a night out with friends; play a game of pool at one of their tables, or try your luck with the dartboards in the back. They also boast authentic Irish cuisine served fresh daily, with their most popular dishes including corned beef and cabbage, bangers and mash, Shepherd's pie, and more! Guinness is readily available to quench your thirst, or if you're looking for something stronger you can try one of their intriguing shots like white gummy bear, green tea Jameson, or even the pineapple upside-down cake.
A few blocks away is 2805 6th Ave, also known as Locust Cider. This establishment was founded in 2015 by brothers Jason and Patrick Spears, and they specialize in "one-of-a-kind bold flavors and innovative beverages made with real premium ingredients." Locust is renowned for their specialty hard ciders, with many delicious flavors ranging from blackberry to cold brew coffee. Most of their tap rooms are in Washington (and their cider is made in state) but they also have a few in Colorado and Texas. If you can't make it to a taproom there's also the option to have these ciders shipped to you!
Boom Boom Room is one of Tacoma’s most popular bars, and according to their website it’s “reminiscent of mid-century Vegas cocktail lounge and restaurant with a scratch kitchen and craft cocktails.” Their delectable scratch menu is made fresh; order a starter and small plate for the table, or indulge in one of their mouthwatering entrees like crawfish etouffee, grilled salmon, or a rack of lamb. While on the pricier side, they offer The Boom Hour Sunday through Wednesday from 4 to 6PM. Cheaper drink options include $4 draft beers or $6 wine by the glass, or you can splurge and taste one of their craft cocktails. Their seasonal drink menu makes them one of the busier late night drinking spots on the weekend; come to 3016 6th Ave and try it yourself!
Last but not least is Loose Wheel Bar & Grill, located at 6108 6th Ave. This original location was opened in 2010 by two locals who felt the sport-themed restaurant would fill a void in the Tacoma bar scene with its large portions and affordable prices. Both their locations deliver “all the sports… all the time” with dozens of flatscreens airing the latest games. The Loose Wheel also has the largest Pull-Tab Bar in Tacoma, with over 60 Pull-Tab games plus a full-time attendant who will serve you food and drinks right at the bar. They also boast full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus daily. If Loose Wheel Bar & Grill is your next stop, consider coming down at 8PM on Thursday for their trivia night!
These are just a few examples of the bars that 6th avenue has to offer. If you want to try something new on a different night, don't worry! You can choose between Crown Bar, Triple Knock, Dirty Oscars, La Ca Bar, Red Hot, Half Pint, Redd Dog, Farelli’s, West End Pub, Beer Star, and more.
