If your idea of a perfect spring weekend includes stopping by a nursery to get inspiration for your garden, you’re in the right place! We put together this detailed list of 16 of our favorite plant nurseries and garden centers across the South Puget Sound, from Puyallup to Port Orchard. We’ve included a mix of huge destination greenhouses, neighborhood gems, and specialty growers worth the drive. This isn’t a complete list of every nursery in the region (there are so many!), but it is a curated collection of local favorites to help you find the right spot for houseplants, garden upgrades, and seasonal inspiration.

Portland Avenue Nursery - Located in Tacoma

The vibe + what you can expect: A longtime Tacoma favorite with that classic neighborhood nursery feel. There’s lots of space to wander, plenty of inspiration, and a team that’s been in business since 1978!  It’s the kind of place locals trust and return to season after season. 

What you can buy: A wide mix of outdoor and indoor plants—trees, perennials, roses, annuals, veggie starts, plus indoor/tropical plants, pottery, and garden supplies. 

What makes Portland Ave unique: They’re especially known for having an extensive selection of plants, and they also host workshops and events. 


GardenSphere - Located in Tacoma

The vibe + what you can expect: A cozy, neighborhood garden center in the Proctor District that’s filled with high-quality plants and employees who offer personalized advice. They’ve been serving Tacoma gardeners since 2004, and they’re proud of being small but mighty!

What you can buy: A rotating selection of indoor and outdoor plants, plus garden essentials like soil/compost/mulch, fertilizers, tools, and even things like bird and chicken supplies. 

What makes GardenSphere unique: They lean hard into service and extra perks you don’t usually get at a nursery. This includes services like free delivery in Tacoma, free pruner sharpening, and houseplant repotting (when you purchase the plant or pot from them). Say hi to their shop cat, Britney, who’s often part of the whole experience! 


Calendula Farm & Nursery - Located in Tacoma

The vibe + what you can expect: Inspiration awaits at every turn at this garden sanctuary! Calendula Farm & Nursery is all about creating artistic outdoor landscapes, whether they’re building you a patio surrounded by landscaping, or designing an oasis filled with medicinal plants. 

What you can buy: Plants, dried florals, and landscaping services.

What makes it unique: They have a huge selection of dried florals and you can even take a workshop to learn how to do it yourself. Calendula’s landscaping services are also top tier—head to their landscaping photo galleries to see some of their stunning work. 


Woodbrook Native Plant Nursery - Located in Gig Harbor

The vibe + what you can expect: This is a fantastic option is you’re searching for native plants. Woodbrook has been growing and supplying Pacific Northwest native plants since 1991, and their website is designed to help you plan a successful purchase before you even arrive. 

What you can buy: Primarily Pacific Northwest native plants (with detailed plant descriptions to match light and moisture conditions) plus a handful of complementary, well-adapted non-native plants. 

What makes Woodbrook unique: The nursery focuses heavily on natives (one regional profile notes about 95% of inventory is native plants), and they’re known for being a go-to resource for choosing the right plants for the habitat you have in mind. 


Yang’s Nursery & Landscaping - Located in Gig Harbor

The vibe + what you can expect: A true “tree nerd” destination! Yang’s has been around since 1978 and is especially known for its standout Japanese maple selection. This is the kind of place you go when you want something special!

What you can buy: Mature Japanese maples, evergreen conifers, plus fruit and ornamental trees and a variety of “rare and unusual” plants suited to the Northwest. 

What makes Yang’s unique: They claim one of the widest selections of Japanese maples in the Northwest with 400+ varieties, many propagated and grown by them.


Rosedale Gardens - Located in Gig Harbor

The vibe + what you can expect: Nestled in the woods with beautifully landscaped grounds and walking paths, visiting Rosedale Gardens feels like a peaceful stroll as much as a shopping stop. 

What you can buy: Unique annuals and perennials, dwarf conifers, trees and shrubs, plus pottery, home accents, and garden art pieces in the charming gift shop. 

What makes Rosedale Gardens unique: It’s designed to be an experience! The manicured grounds are filled with original garden designs, so you can get ideas while you browse.


Todd’s Nursery & Landscaping - Located in Puyallup

The vibe + what you can expect: A classic PNW nursery experience with 7 acres to wander, tons of options for plants that thrive in our climate, and a staff that’s genuinely helpful whether you’re doing a small weekend refresh or planning a full yard redo. They’re also family-owned since 1960. 

What you can buy: An extensive selection of trees, shrubs, perennials, and native plant options, including specialty standouts like Japanese maples, fruit trees, and even bonsai/fairy garden supplies. And of course garden essentials to keep your plants happy! 

What makes Todd’s unique: They also do landscaping, and one of their coolest perks is that you can walk the nursery and hand-pick the exact plants that go into your landscape project. 


Vassey Nursery - Located in Puyallup

The vibe + what you can expect: A classic, locally loved Puyallup nursery with 14 greenhouses. Vassey Nursery is known for high-quality, reasonably priced nursery stock. 

What you can buy: A wide selection of annuals, perennials, shrubs, roses, and ornamental trees, plus seeds/starts and a gift shop with garden and home finds. 

What makes Vassey unique: They’re a family-owned nursery that’s been growing at this location for nearly 40 years. 


Watson’s Greenhouse - Located in Puyallup + Federal Way + Olympia

The vibe + what you can expect: Watson’s is definitely a “destination greenhouse” that’s as fun to browse as it is to shop—plants, seasonal displays, and giftable home finds are all in one place. It’s curated and easy to navigate, with locations across the South Sound.

What you can buy: Houseplants, outdoor plants (perennials, shrubs, seasonal color), plus pots, soil, tools, and a strong selection of home décor + gifts.

What makes Watson’s unique: It’s not just a nursery—it’s an outing! The Puyallup location includes an in-store café, and Watson’s also hosts workshops/events throughout the year.


The Brothers Greenhouses - Located in Port Orchard

The vibe + what you can expect: A true Port Orchard classic, The Brothers Greenhouse is part garden center, part local attraction. It’s independently owned, open year-round, an is huge with rows and rows of greenhouse buildings to wander. It’s also home of the famous Hobbit House that you can visit during business hours. 

What you can buy: A wide selection of perennials, annuals, houseplants, tropicals, ferns, cacti/succulents, vegetables, herbs, and trees—plus plenty of fun garden extras like decor. 

What makes The Brothers unique: The Hobbit House experience is the headline: it’s a whimsical tiny house tucked behind the nursery. 


Willow Tree Gardens - Located in University Place

The vibe + what you can expect: A family-owned, full-service nursery and gift shop that’s friendly, approachable, and perfect for wandering. 

What you can buy: A wide variety of outdoor and indoor plants—trees, shrubs, annuals, succulents, tropicals, ground covers—plus gift shop finds. 

What makes it unique: It’s both a nursery and a true gift-shop stop, and they also offer landscape/design services. You can even bring in your containers and they will choose the plants and plant them for you, or they’ll even come to your house and plant your containers for you! 


Windmill Gardens - Located in Sumner

The vibe + what you can expect: You could easily spend an entire day exploring Windmill Gardens and Windmill Village! In addition to exploring plants in the greenhouse, floral studio and gift shop, gazebo and plant yard, and throughout many beautiful gardens and landscaping, you can also enjoy a meal at The Bistro, stop by the salon and Tea Shoppe, enjoy relaxing on the patio, and more. 

What you can buy: An extensive variety of flowers, plants, vegetables, herbs, shrubs, trees (including fruit trees), house plants, indoor tropical plans, berries, hanging baskets, bouquets, and more. Windmill Gardens also sells garden tools, decor, and all of the soil, fertilizers, and other supplies you’ll need to grow a healthy garden! 

What makes it unique: You can do so much more than just shop here—it’s an entire experience thanks to the restaurant, many gardens to admire, and more. 


Edgewood Nursery & Garden - Located in Edgewood

The vibe + what you can expect: A huge selection of plants with a knowledgeable team that can offer advice. 

What you can buy: Trees, shrubs, vegetables, herbs, annuals, perennials, rain barrels, and more. 

What makes it unique: Family-owned and operated with over 40 years of experience! Edgewood Nursery & Garden is very service-forward and employees are happy to talk through what will actually thrive in your yard. 


Lake Tapps Rhododendron Nursery - Located in Buckley

The vibe + what you can expect: A second generation nursery that is family-owned and operated. They’re also a true specialty nursery! 

 What you can buy: Rhododendrons, azaleas, and trees. The selection of Rhododendrons is spectacular to explore—take a moment to browse varieties here before heading there in person. 

What makes it unique: You’ll be able to find more selection if you’re searching for an extra special Rhodie. 


NW Tree Nursery - Located in Orting

The vibe + what you can expect: A 40-acre farm/tree nursery in the Orting Foothills that’s all about trees that do well in our PNW climate. 

What you can buy: Trees in a range of sizes (they note they grow much of their stock), delivery service, planting service, and more. 

What makes it unique: NW Tree Nursery grows a lot of what they sell, so you’ll often see more size options than a typical retail nursery. 


Sunnycrest Nursery Florist & Décor - Located in Lakebay

The vibe + what you can expect: A full-service Key Peninsula favorite that is a nursery + florist + gift shop in one. 

What you can buy: Annuals, perennials, native plants, herbs, trees/shrubs, plus organic soils/fertilizers/pest controls. You’ll also find floral arrangements and lots of home/garden gifts. 

What makes it unique: Employees are knowledgeable and can give you advice if you need it. In addition to the nursery, the gift shop has lots of inspiration if you need to find a present for someone.
