Where to Get the Best Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt in the South Puget Sound
We’re lucky to have several wonderful ice cream and frozen yogurt shops to choose from here in the South Puget Sound, and many of them are locally owned originals! When summer finally arrives in the Pacific Northwest, many locals like to try to spend as much time outside as possible. And there’s really not a better way to cool off than with a cold sweet treat!
In this blog post, we’re sharing just a few favorite locally owned ice cream and frozen yogurt shops in the South Puget Sound area:
Ice Cream Social in Tacoma
With locations in Proctor, Hilltop, and Point Ruston Waterfront, Ice Cream Social in Tacoma has quickly become a local favorite! Ice Cream Social started at Tacoma’s Broadway Farmers Market in the Summer of 2013, and needless to say, it was a hit! Freshly rolled waffle cones, the very best ice cream ingredients, and a fun atmosphere = one of the beast ice cream shops in the region!
Bliss Small Batch Creamery in University Place & Proctor
The creators of Bliss Small Batch Creamery use the very best ingredients in their delicious ice cream. They’re especially mindful of people with allergies, so you’ll find dairy free, egg free, gluten free, and nut free ice creams so everyone can enjoy! You also won’t find any artificial dyes, flavors, or preservatives in Bliss Small Batch Creamery’s ice cream, and they even publish an ingredients list on their website in case you want to check it out.
Cookie Dough Bliss & Creamery in Tacoma
Cookie Dough Bliss & Creamery has a handful of locations throughout the United States, and we’re lucky to have the only Washington location right here in Tacoma! As the name implies, Cookie Dough Bliss & Creamery offers ready-to-eat cookie dough that’s safe to eat without baking, and in fact, there are 20 flavors to choose from! It’s similar to ice cream in appearance (and with flavors like Peanut Butter Paradise, Bourbon Butter Pecan, and Red Velvet Cream Cheese Swirl it sure reminds us of ice cream!), but you’ll have to try it for yourself to see what all the excitement is about! Their menu also has a Signature Bliss Ice Cream Bar and a Cookie Dough Shake, in case you’re craving ice cream, too.
Elements in Puyallup
When you stop by Elements, you can pick up freshly roasted coffee (from Manifesto Coffee Roasters in Tacoma), fresh juices, and froyo (it’s the good stuff, with live cultures and probiotics!). Located in Downtown Puyallup, Elements is right across the street from Pioneer Park so you can stop by after the Puyallup Farmers Market! Check out Elements on Yelp to see what locals are saying about Element.
Sweetreats Harbor Cakes in Gig Harbor
From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, the cute, vintage-inspired Sweetreats Harbor Cakes ice cream cart sits right outside the Gig Harbor General Store. Sweetreats serves the locally crafted Bliss Small Batch Ice cream, which features high-quality natural ingredients.
Tealicious Drinks & Dessert in Bonney Lake
Tealicious takes dessert to a whole new level. While bubble tea (with all kinds of boba and fruit jellies) is their main offering, they also have puffles (“puffy waffles”) that you can order wrapped around scoops of Olympic Mountain Ice Cream. Check out their impressive menu here.
Avalanche Delite in Enumclaw
This locally owned frozen yogurt and espresso shop in Enumclaw is a cheerful spot to grab your espresso in the morning and your froyo for dessert! The frozen yogurt flavors are rotating (right now flavors include Toasted Marshmallow, Cake Batter, Sweet Coconut, Georgia Peach, Milk Chocolate, and French Vanilla), and there are 40+ toppings to choose from!
Sweet Necessities in Enumclaw
Ice cream, homemade chocolates, candy, flavored popcorn, tea, and espresso are all featured in this charming shop. Locals rave about the Snoqualmie Ice Cream they serve, and many people love how you can stock up on other treats when you’re there, too. The next time you’re in the heart of Downtown Enumclaw, you’ll know where to go for dessert!
